The best place for happy hour! Came here all the time when I was at ucla. It's hard to not order everything off the menu because everything is so good. It's a really nice restaurant with great outdoor seating and inside is so beautiful! Service is always excellent and on top of everything, they really take care of you here.

(From June 30, 2022) A couple months ago, I did finally get the chance to come to Ami for their actual food. The bento box. It was good. Solid. Would come back again. I can't remember exactly what I got because we were in the area for a show at the Geffen (opening night for A Wicked Soul in Cherry Hill), and my friend ordered for me. I think there was tempura and some sort of teriyaki...probably salmon. There is a LOT of food, and everything is solid. Parking is tricky in Westwood usually - my go-to is the Broxton lot, which has reasonable prices, and a daily max of $9 (when I checked last, which has been a while, so.....) ****** (Review from July 2019) Ok...so...uh, I'm honestly not sure how to rate them. We were here...but got no actual food or service. They are getting 5 stars simply because we were so amused by what happened tonight. Had dinner at another restaurant and were taking an after-dinner stroll around Westwood, looking to possibly get a drink. Ran across the Cinema under the Stars event that Westwood was doing -- they were projecting Guardians of the Galaxy on a huge screen. And it was about halfway thru. This looked fun. Saw Ami and its outdoor seats, in perfect view of the screen. I went inside to ask the host if it was ok to sit there, with the intention of ordering drinks and maybe a snack. He asked someone to clean the table, we sat down, and the busser brought out waters, plates, utensils, napkins, soy sauce, and wasabi. And then.......nothing. For a long long time after we sat down, no server came by - the other tables next to us were finishing their meal and probably didn't need much service. So this became a game where we were seeing how long they would just...let us be, and not demand that we purchase something.... so to be fair, we weren't really actively trying to get someone's attention. Finally, who we think was the manager came out and was hob-nobbing with the table diagonal to us and shared a shot of sake with the customer. The people next to us had drinks and some food...and when the movie was near ending, some customers got seated at the table across from us, and got prompt service (and sake bombs). But we were just....completely ignored for about an hour. Now..... I'll be honest, this isn't a bad thing at all, and we really didn't mind. I mean, we essentially got what were VIP seats for the outdoor movie, water, ginger and wasabi and soy sauce, and access to their restroom... without having to spend any money. We did end up leaving a small tip. So.... 5 stars for being super laid-back, letting us use your seats and restroom...and just amusing and confusing the hell out of us - definitely a memorable (if confusing) Friday evening. Just for this, I will make it a point to go back and try the food next time.

Came for late night happy hour while it was a short period of time before kitchen closing at 945, we ordered enough and got to hang out a bit. Ordered 3 rolls and they were enough. Crowd could be a bit different late night with either the party drinking large group or girls hanging out or couples spending some time together so noise is just dependent on that. Food tastes pretty good and price is reasonable for happy hour. Definitely a regular spot for us now!
